Late afternoon we took a rickshaw to Har-ki-Pairi Ghats, translated as The Footsteps of God. This is the place where Vishnu spilled one of 4 drops of the nectar of immortality, making Haridwar one of the holiest Hindu city. We arrived for the ganga aarti. Today the ceremony was under the full moon,  so there were hundreds of pilgrims attending. After the ceremony was finished, the pilgrims approached the priests to receive blessings and then went down to the waters of the Ganges to bathe and release offerings into the river.

We found a Ganesha Shrine and with the help of the priest made a small ceremony and released our small offering into the river.

We returned to our hotel walking through the bazaar. At night the place was really lively with the pilgrims buying souvenirs and eating fresh food. It was great entertainment, plus the added advantage that the street was blocked for vehicles, se we didn’t have to worry with rickshaws or motorcycles and the endless honking.

Haridwar, Uttarakhand

Chegamos a tempo do ganga aarti.
